MADONNA DELL'ACQUA CHAPEL
This small church, which now houses two plaques dedicated to the fallen, boasts origins dating back over a century. It appears to have been built in 1616 on behalf of the Vicar Bishop of Rimini.
During the Second World War, it was heavily bombed and subsequently rebuilt; the apse is certainly original. The gray stone building, located at the intersection of three roads, borders the Casa Pascoli Park. The two sides facing the road have a similar layout, rich in architectural and decorative elements. Inside, the church has a single nave with an apse covered by a barrel vault.
In addition to the cultural value of this small building, there is also its testimonial and literary value linked to Pascoli's literary production. Giovanni Pascoli loved this small building, which consoled his mother's grief. In May 1897, he wrote to his friends in Sammaurese: "... and the guest will bid an emotional farewell to my ideal world, bordered by the Luso and the Rio Salto and centered on the little church of the Madonna dell'Acqua and the cemetery shrouded in cypress trees..."
